Ligaments are the soft tissues in the body that connect bone to bone. A ligament sprain can occur in any part of the body. The most common ligaments sprained are located in the ankle joint, knee, wrist, and fingers. Click here to learn more.

There are various kinds of bone fractures (open, closed, complete, displaced, partial, stress, etc.) They can all be diagnosed and may be treated in the same way. A bone fracture (broken bone) occurs when part of a bone breaks into one or more pieces. Click here to learn more. 

A joint dislocation, a major injury where the two (or more) bones that make up your joint are forced out of their normal positions), is almost always caused by a major trauma, like a car accident or a fall on an outstretched hand. These injuries often cause damage to the ligaments, joint capsule, surrounding musculature, and sometimes the fracture of an involved bone. Nerves conduct electrical signals from the brain to the rest of the body, providing you with conscious and unconscious sensory information, allowing you to move your body, and maintaining the function of your internal organs without your conscious effort. Nerve impingement can also be referred to as a pinched nerve. Nerve impingement occurs when the soft tissues or joints that are surrounding the nerve put pressure on the nerve. Bursa are small fluid filled sacs found all over the body, most commonly located around joints. The reduce friction and provide cushion around ligaments, tendons, and bony prominences. A direct blow to these bursa may cause it to erupt or to develop further inflammation which causes the area to swell. Bursitis is most commonly found in the knee, elbow, and shoulder joint. Arthritis is the swelling or tenderness of one or more joint due to degeneration of the cartilage and underlying bone. The two most common types of arthritis are rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune, chronic inflammatory disorder leading to joint degeneration. Tendinopathy is the overarching term for pain and inflammation of a tendon and it’s associated structures. Tendinitis specifically refers to inflammation of the tendon, and tenosynovitis to inflammation of the tendon sheath. It is almost impossible to determine which structure is irritated (and they often both are as they are so closely related) with clinical tests or diagnostic imaging, but fear not - the treatment protocol is the same regardless! Stress fractures are small fractures caused by repetitive stress, rather than the trauma associated with most fractures. These little fractures can be found in any part of the body but are most commonly found in the weight-bearing bones, including the shins and feet. Click here to learn more.
